Julie Morita, MD, is president and CEO of The Joyce Foundation, a nonpartisan, private foundation that invests in evidence-informed public policies and strategies to advance racial equity and economic mobility for the next generation in the Great Lakes region. Before joining Joyce, she served as executive vice president at Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), where she was responsible for all programming, policy, research and communications activities, advancing the mission of health equity by eliminating barriers to health, including racial discrimination. Prior to RWJF, she helped lead the Chicago Department of Public Health for nearly 2 decades, first as a medical director, then as chief medical officer. In 2015, she was appointed as commissioner, where she oversaw the public health needs of 2.7 million residents in the third largest city in the US.
