Robert (Bob) H. Hopkins, Jr., MD (Moderator)

Medical Director, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID)

In addition to serving as NFID chief medical spokesperson, Robert (Bob) H. Hopkins, Jr., MD, represents NFID as liaison to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He serves as an ex-officio member of the NFID Board of Directors and all Board-level committees.

As medical director, Hopkins helps to advance the NFID mission through efforts to grow NFID programs, build vaccine confidence, address health equity issues, increase awareness of disease prevention and treatment, and strengthen NFID partner collaborations. He has held many national and local leadership positions including serving as chair of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee to the US Department of Health and Human Services (2019-2024) and chair of the American College of Physicians Immunization Committee. Hopkins also serves as professor of internal medicine and pediatrics and is immediate past chief of the division of general internal medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). His primary academic interest is clinical vaccinology with emphasis on education. He maintains an active teaching and clinical practice providing primary and consultative care to adults and children. He was recognized as a 2024 Healio Honoree as a strategic, yet humble leader who has shaped US vaccine policy and helped build vaccine confidence.

Holly Carpenter, BSN, RN

Holly Carpenter, BSN, RN, is a Senior Policy Advisor for the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing Practice and Work Environment department and ANA’s Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation® program. Her portfolio at ANA includes developing resources, policies, and education programs on nurse health, safety, and wellness including immunization, nurse suicide prevention, mental health, climate change, and other occupational health and environmental health issues. 

She currently serves on the technical expert panel for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Surveys on Patient Safety Culture™. She has had multiple articles published on a variety of nurse health, safety, and wellness topics and has presented nationally and internationally on nurse wellness. 

Frederick Chen, MD, MPH

Chief Health and Science Officer, American Medical Association (AMA); Family Physician and Professor, University of Washington 

Frederick Chen, MD, MPH, is the Chief Health and Science Officer for the American Medical Association. In this role, he leads the AMA’s work in public health, science, and ethics. The AMA is active in public health issues ranging from infectious disease epidemiology to gun violence and climate change.  

Chen is a family physician and Professor at the University of Washington where he directed one of the largest family medicine residency networks. He serves on several journal editorial boards and is a Past President of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Chen is a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine with an MPH in epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Brigid K. Groves, PharmD, MS, is Vice President, Professional Affairs at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). She leads, coordinates, and contributes to efforts and initiatives related to transforming the role of the pharmacist, advancing pharmacists’ patient care services, supporting coverage for pharmacists’ provided services, promoting the pharmacist’s role as a healthcare provider, and protecting the well-being of pharmacists and pharmacy personnel in the workplace.
