For those with chronic health conditions, annual flu vaccination is a critical part of medical care

Adults with certain chronic health conditions are at higher risk of developing serious flu-related complications.

Anyone can get sick with flu, but certain people are at high risk of developing serious related complications, including those with certain chronic health conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, and diabetes.

Even when well-controlled, having a chronic condition puts you at higher risk for flu-related complications, including hospitalization, catastrophic disability, and even death. In recent flu seasons, 9 out of 10 people hospitalized with flu had at least 1 underlying health condition.

Annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone age 6 months and older to help reduce the risk of flu-related complications.
