The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) welcomes the recent federal ruling, which restores the immunization recommendations that were in place prior to June 2025. This decision helps ensure that US families can choose and access vaccines to protect against potentially serious diseases.
NFID had submitted public comments for the March 18–19, 2026 meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the federal advisory body that develops vaccine recommendations for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). ACIP has historically played a vital role in helping ensure that US families can choose and access vaccines that help protect against preventable infectious diseases. In its comments, NFID urged the committee to maintain rigorous, transparent, evidence-based decision-making as it considers issues related to COVID-19 vaccine safety, Long COVID, and immunization policy.
NFID notes that billions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been safely administered worldwide and that evidence continues to show they reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization. The comments also highlight the ongoing impact of Long COVID and the role vaccination can play in helping reduce the risk of long-term health complications following infection.
NFID also emphasizes the importance of transparency in the ACIP process, including publishing meeting agendas in advance so public health experts and liaison organizations can provide informed input on policy decisions that affect patients and families.
