NEW & REEMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES COURSE IS SET

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Emory University School of Medicine will jointly sponsor New and Reemerging Infectious Diseases: A Clinical Course. The course will be held June 5-7, 1999, at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta Buckhead in Atlanta, GA.

First offered in 1997, the 1999 course will focus on the clinical aspects of new and reemerging infectious diseases. Expert infectious disease clinicians and epidemiologists will provide the latest information on both current and prospective therapeutic agents through lectures and interactive case presentations. Session topics include:

New and Emerging Infectious Diseases: Recognition, Treatment and Etiology
Management of HIV and HIV-Associated Infections
New Approaches to the Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases
Topics in Nosocomial Infections
Infections in the Young
Infections in the Elderly
Global Problems of Emerging Infectious Diseases

The course is particularly relevant for internists, pediatricians, family practitioners, infectious disease physicians and others interested in the diagnosis, treatment, and epidemiology of new and reemerging infectious disease syndromes.

The course has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essentials and standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the CDC and NFID. The CDC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
