NEW NCAI MATERIALS AVAILABLE

The National Coalition for Adult Immunization (NCAI), is pleased to announce the availability of several new publications. The third edition of the very popular Resource Guide for Adult and Adolescent Immunization was published in January 1998. With this edition, NCAI expanded the scope of resources to include materials on adolescent immunization issues in addition to adult immunization issues. Also new in this edition is a section on web sites and telephone contacts. The resource guide lists a variety of materials that address a broad spectrum of adult and adolescent immunization issues, as well as the 10 vaccine-preventable diseases. NCAI's members and state and local health departments contributed much of the resource information.

In 1996, NCAI implemented a social marketing research project aimed at examining behavioral and attitudinal factors that influence the adult immunization rates in the United States. The Annotated Bibliography represents the work collected during the first phase of the research project. Researchers collected and reviewed more than 70 items found in the bibliography. Articles cover the period from 1982 to the start of the research in early 1996. The materials include works from peer review journals, project reports, and conference proceedings, as well as articles from popular magazines.

Also available is NCAI's Directory of Adult Immunization Tracking Software. The directory provides descriptive information on 16 tracking software packages for use in private physician offices and other health care settings. The directory includes a chart which provides a quick overview of all included programs; two indexes to assist users in locating software information of particular interest; and information on several telephone reminder systems. The directory is NCAI's effort to provide physicians and their staff with information to assist them as they fully computerize their immunization records.

To receive additional information on NCAI programs or to order any of the above publications, contact NCAI at 4733 Bethesda Avenue, Suite 750, Bethesda, MD 20814, fax (301) 907-0878, e-mail: adultimm@aol.com..

NCAI LAUNCHES NEW REFERRALSERVICE

The National Coalition for Adult Immunization (NCAI) has launched the Speaker Referral Service - a new program which lists individuals who can speak on general adult immunization, specific vaccine-preventable diseases, or other adult immunization issues. Topics such as the cost versus benefit of vaccination or first-hand accounts of being infected with a vaccine-preventable disease are welcome.

The service also includes individuals who can tailor their remarks to specific audiences such as presenting technical medical information to health care professionals, providing educational information to high school students, or facilitating a workshop on vaccine prevention for an at-risk population.

Any agency, organization, or individual at the national, state, or local level may participate in the program. There is no charge to request referrals to potential speakers for meetings or workshops, or to be listed as a speaker in the service.

A brochure highlighting the NCAI Speaker Referral Service is available. For more information about the referral service, to request a referral, or to discuss inclusion on the referral list, please contact Brenda M. Nicely, NCAI project officer, at (301) 656-0003 or e-mail: adultimm@aol.com.
