FOURTH NEW & REEMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES COURSE PLANNED FOR JUNE 2000

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) will sponsor, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Emory University School of Medicine the course entitled, New and Reemerging Infectious Diseases: A Clinical Course. Scheduled for June 3-5, 2000, the course will again be held at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead in Atlanta, GA.

Offered annually since 1997, the 2000 course will focus on the clinical aspects of new and reemerging infectious diseases. Expert infectious disease clinicians and epidemiologists will provide the latest information on both current and prospective therapeutic agents through lectures and interactive case presentations. Session topics include:

  1. Clinical and Epidemiologic Updates
  2. Coping with Antimicrobial Resistance
  3. Management of HIV and HIV-Associated Infections
  4. Emerging Gastrointestinal Pathogens: Diagnosing and Managing Infectious Gastroenteritis
  5. Growing Threat of New and Reemerging Infectious Diseases: The Agents of Bioterrorism
  6. Antiinfectives on the Near Horizon
  7. Preventing and Managing Infections in the Young
  8. Preventing and Managing Infections in Adults
  9. Current Topics in Infectious Diseases
The course is particularly relevant for internists, pediatricians, family practitioners, infectious disease physicians and others interested in the diagnosis, treatment, and epidemiology of new and reemerging infectious disease syndromes.

The course has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essentials and standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). NFID is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
