The December 1995 issue of The Double Helix contained excerpts from remarks made by Robert Austrian, MD last September in San Francisco. The following is a corrected version of the fourth sentence:

"One can discover from an historical review of the course of pneumococcal endocarditis complicating lobar pneumonia the unlikelihood that any treatment other than that with a bactericidal drug would cure this disease, and that effective therapy would not prevent subsequent cardiac valve rupture from damage sustained prior to treatment."
