The Second Annual Conference on Vaccine Research: General Information

Dates and Location

The Second Annual Conference on Vaccine Research will be held March 28-30, 1999 at the following hotel:

The Hyatt Regency Bethesda is located in downtown Bethesda, Maryland, part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The hotel provides the convenience of the city with the comfort of the suburbs it is only 18 miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, 32 miles from Washington Dulles International and Baltimore/Washington International airports, and six miles from Union Station. Adjacent to the "Bethesda" station on the Red Line of the Washington metropolitan (METRO) subway system, the hotel is within walking distance of over 100 restaurants and minutes away from fine shopping.

*This facility is fully accessible to the public in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.

Hotel Accommodations

A limited number of guest rooms has been reserved at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda for conference participants at the rate listed below:

$129 (plus applicable taxes, currently 12%), per night, single/double occupancy

To make a reservation, call the hotel directly at 1-301-657-1234 or the Hyatt toll-free reservation department at 1-800-233-1234, and tell the agent that you are attending the Conference on Vaccine Research being held from March 28-30, 1999. Also be sure to mention the following group code: CNF1. Reservations should be made no later than March 1, 1999 in order to secure the conference rate. After that date, rooms are on a space- and rate-available basis only.

In addition, a small block of rooms has been reserved at the prevailing 1999 per diem for employees of the U.S. Federal Government. Identify yourself as such when you call to make your reservation and give the agent the following group code: CNF2. You will be required to present proof of your government employee status upon check-in.

Air Travel

United Airlines is the official airline of the Second Annual Conference on Vaccine Research. If you or your travel agent call United's toll-free number at 1-800-521-4041 to book your reservations, you will receive a 5 percent discount off the lowest applicable domestic fare, including First Class, or a 10 percent discount off mid-week coach fares, purchased 7 days in advance. You can earn an additional 5 percent discount if you purchase your tickets at least 60 days in advance of your travel. Discounts also apply on Shuttle by United and United Express. Call United's specialized meeting reservations center at the number above to obtain the best fares and schedule information, 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to midnight, Eastern Time. Make sure you refer to Meeting ID number: 544DH.

The Washington, D.C., metropolitan area is served by three airports:

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport serves major North American destinations and is closest to the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, only 18 miles away. The new terminal also provides convenient access to the Metrorail subway system.
  • Washington Dulles International Airport is located approximately 32 miles from the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic.
  • Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) is located approximately 32 miles from the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic.
Car Rental

Avis and Alamo car rental companies will offer a 10 percent discount off all applicable rental rates when reservations are made in conjunction with United Airlines air travel reservations (see Air Travel above).

Registration and Fees

The registration fees are as follows:

On or before February 12, 1999*: $325
After February 12, 1999 and Onsite: $350

*To qualify for the reduced registration fee of $325, a complete registration form with payment must be received at the NFID office before 5 p.m. Eastern Time on February 12, 1999. Registrations or payments received after February 12 will be subject to the $350 fee.

Space is limited to the first 400 registrants. The registration fee includes a program/abstract book, continental breakfast on each day of the conference, all scheduled coffee breaks, the opening reception, and the poster session reception. Accommodations and additional meals are not included.

To register, complete the attached registration form, and return it with the appropriate form of payment according to the instructions below. Confirmation letters will be faxed within two weeks of completed registration and proper payment.

  • Credit Cards: If you are paying by credit card, you may fax your registration to 1-301-907-0878 or mail it to the address below. We are unable to accept telephone registrations.
  • Check or Money Order: Checks (drawn on a U.S. bank only) and/or money orders must be in U.S. dollars, made payable to NFID, and mailed with the registration form to the address below.

Purchase orders can not be accepted.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds minus a $75 administrative fee will be granted only if written notification arrives at the NFID office prior to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on March 5, 1999. There will be no refunds for cancellations made after March 5, 1999.

The sponsoring organizations reserve the right to cancel this conference at any time. In the event of conference cancellation, the full registration fee will be returned to the registrant.
