The Third Annual Conference on Vaccine Research will be held April 30 - May 2, 2000 at the following hotel:

The Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel is ideally located mid-way between the White House and the Capitol. The hotel is only 10 minutes from Ronald Regan Washington National Airport, 40 minutes from both Washington Dulles International and Baltimore-Washington International Airports and 5 minutes from Washington Union Station. Only 2 blocks from the Gallery Place/Chinatown station of the Washington metro area's subway, Metrorail, the hotel is in the heart of Washington D.C.'s historic Chinatown. The eight blocks that make up Chinatown are home to world famous restaurants, shopping, entertainment and cultural venues, including the Shakespeare Theater, MCI Center Complex, and both the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of American Art. Hotel Accommodations

A limited number of guest rooms has been reserved at the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel for conference participants at the rate listed below:

$165 (plus applicable taxes, currently 14.5%), per night, single occupancy and $190 per night plus tax, double occupancy.

To make a reservation, call the hotel directly at 1-202-898-9000 or the Renaissance toll-free reservation department at 1-800-468-3571, and tell the agent that you are attending the Annual Conference on Vaccine Research being held from April 30 - May 2, 2000. Reservations should be made no later than March 31, 2000 in order to secure the conference rate. After that date, rooms are on a space- and rate-available basis only.

In addition, a small block of rooms has been reserved at the prevailing 2000 per diem for employees of the U.S. Federal Government. Identify yourself as such when you call to make your reservation. You will be required to present proof of your government employee status upon check-in.

Travel

By Plane:
Washington, D.C., metropolitan area is served by three airports:

  • National Airport serves major North American destinations and is closest to the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel, only 5 miles away. Taxi service between the hotel and National Airport is available for approximately $12 one-way. Super Shuttle is $9 one way. The new terminal also provides convenient access to the Metrorail subway system. From National Airport station take the Yellow line train in the direction of Mt. Vernon Square/UDC. Disembark at the Gallery Place/Chinatown Station and follow the directions in the By Metrorail section below.

  • Dulles International Airport is located approximately 25 miles from the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic. Taxi service between downtown and Dulles is approximately $40 one-way. Super Shuttle service operates 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The cost is $20 one way.

  • Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is located approximately 30 miles from downtown Washington, D.C. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic. Taxi service between downtown Washington and BWI is approximately $50 one way. Super Shuttle transportation service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with buses running every 30 minutes. The cost is $21 one way or $34 round-trip. MARC and Amtrak both provide train service between the BWI train station and Washington Union Station. Please note that service is extremely limited on Saturdays and Sundays.

By Train:
The Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel is located just 5 minutes from Washington Union Station. A taxi will cost approximately $6.00. Union Station is also serviced by the Metrorail subway system. From the Union Station Metrorail stop, take the Red line train in the direction of Shady Grove or Grosvenor. Disembark at the Gallery Place/Chinatown station and follow the By Metrorail directions.

By Metrorail:
Metrorail, the Washington, D.C. metro areažs subway system is a safe, inexpensive alternative to driving. The Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel is located just 2 blocks from the Gallery Place/Chinatown station, which is located at the junction of the Red, Yellow, and Green line trains. Leave the station via the 9th & G Street exit. Go right onto 9th Street for 2 blocks, the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel is located between I and K Streets on the right side of the street, across the street from the Washington Convention Center. Metrorail fares vary based upon the time of day and length of your trip, base fare is $1.10 one way.

By Car:
From the North: Take I-95 South to I-295 South. Take the New York Avenue exit going west. Turn left onto 9th Street NW. The hotel is 2 blocks down 9th Street on the left.

From the Northwest: Take I-270 to I-495 West (to Northern Virginia) to I-395 North. Take the 12th Street exit. Turn right onto New York Avenue. Turn right onto 9th Street NW. The hotel is on the left.

From the South: Take I-95 North to I-395 North. Take the 14th Street exit. Turn right onto New York Avenue. Make a right onto 9th Street NW. The hotel is on the left.

From the East: Take Route 50 West, which becomes New York Avenue in Washington. Turn left onto 9th Street NW. The hotel is 2 blocks down 9th Street on the left.

From the West: Take I-66 East to Constitution Avenue. Turn left onto 12th Street NW. Make a right on New York Avenue. Turn right onto 9th Street. The hotel is on the left.

Registration and Fees

The registration fees are as follows:

On or before March 17, 2000*: $325
After March 17, 2000 and Onsite: $375

*To qualify for the reduced registration fee of $325, a complete registration form with payment must be received at the NFID office before 5 p.m. Eastern Time on March 17, 2000. Registrations or payments received after March 17 will be subject to the $375 fee.

Space is limited to the first 500 registrants. The registration fee includes a program/abstract book, continental breakfast on each day of the conference, all scheduled coffee breaks, the opening reception, and the poster session reception. Accommodations and additional meals are not included.

To register, complete the attached registration form, and return it with the appropriate form of payment according to the instructions below. Confirmation letters will be faxed within two weeks of completed registration and proper payment.

  • Check or Money Order: Checks (drawn on a U.S. bank only) and/or money orders must be in U.S. dollars, made payable to NFID, and mailed with the registration form to the address below.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds minus a $75 administrative fee will be granted only if written notification arrives at the NFID office prior to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on March 31, 2000. There will be no refunds for cancellations made after March 31, 2000. NFID reserves the right to cancel this conference at any time. In the event of conference cancellation, only the full registration fee will be returned to the registrant.
