The Fourth Annual Conference on Vaccine Research will be held April 23 - 25, 2001 at the following hotel:

The Hyatt Regency Crystal City is conveniently located one-half mile from the Reagan National Airport, approximately 40 minutes from both Washington Dulles International and Baltimore-Washington International Airports and 15 minutes from Washington Union Station. The hotel offers a complimentary van ride to the Reagan National Airport or to the Crystal City station of the Washington metro area subway, Metrorail. Crystal City is located a bridge away from Washington, D.C.--three miles from the White House, The US Capitol, the monuments, and the Smithsonian Museums. It is also only two miles from historic Old Town Alexandria. Several sites offer tourist and other information about the Washington, D.C. area. Hotel Accommodations

A limited number of guest rooms has been reserved at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel for conference participants at the rate listed below:

$169 (plus applicable taxes, currently 9.75%), per night, single or double occupancy.

To make a reservation, call the hotel directly at 703-418-1234 or the Hyatt toll-free reservation department at 800-233-1234, and tell the agent that you are attending the Annual Conference on Vaccine Research being held from April 23 - 25, 2001. Reservations should be made no later than March 30, 2001 in order to secure the conference rate. After that date, rooms are on a space- and rate-available basis only. Please note that the room block is limited, and contacting the hotel before March 30 does not guarantee that space will be available. Make your reservations as early as possible to avoid any problems.

In addition, a small block of rooms has been reserved at the prevailing 2001 per diem for employees of the U.S. Federal Government. Identify yourself as a U.S. Government employee when you call to make your reservation. You will be required to present proof of your government employee status upon check-in.

Travel

By Plane:
Washington, D.C. is served by three airports:

  • Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) serves major North American destinations and is closest to the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. Complimentary shuttle service is available between the Hyatt Regency Crystal City and Ronald Reagan National Airport. To request shuttle pick-up, call the hotel at 703-418-1234 upon your arrival. The new terminal also provides convenient access to the Metrorail subway system. From National Airport station take the Blue or Yellow line train in the direction of Addison Road or Mt. Vernon Square/UDC. Disembark at the Crystal City station and follow the directions in the By Metrorail section below.

  • Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located approximately 35 miles from the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic. Taxi service between Crystal City and Dulles is approximately $45 one-way. Super Shuttle service operates 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m (call 1-800-258-3826 for reservations). The cost is $22 one-way for the first passenger and $10 for each additional passenger in your group. Washington Flyer offers shuttle buses between Dulles and Reagan National, the West Falls Church station on the Orange Line of Metrorail, or various destinations in downtown Washington, D.C. Costs vary depending on destination.

  • Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is located approximately 40 miles from the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic. Taxi service between Crystal City and BWI is approximately $60 one-way. Super Shuttle transportation service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (call 1-800-258-3826 for reservations). The cost is approximately $37 one-way for the first passenger and $8 for each additional passenger in your group.

By Train:
The Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel is located just 15 minutes from Washington Union Station. A taxi will cost approximately $10. Union Station is also serviced by the Metrorail subway system. From the Union Station stop, take the Red line train in the direction of Shady Grove or Grosvenor. Change trains at the Gallery Place/Chinatown station to a Yellow line train going in the direction of Huntington. Disembark at the Crystal City station and follow the directions in the By Metrorail section below.

By Metrorail:
Metrorail, the Washington, D.C. metro area's subway system is a safe, inexpensive alternative to driving. The Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel is located about one-half mile from the Crystal City station, which is located on the Blue and Yellow lines. Leave the station via the Clark Street exit. Walk south on Clark Street approximately one-half mile. The hotel is on the left. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service. Call the hotel at 703-418-1234 to request service. The Hyatt address is 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1). Metrorail fares vary based upon the time of day and length of your trip; base fare is $1.10 one-way.

By Car:
From the Northeast: Take I-95 South to I-295 South over Woordrow Wilson Bridge into Virginia. Take Exit 1 (first exit off of bridge), this is a three part exit. Take middle exit (Route 1 North). Travel approximately 5 miles north. Turn right onto 27th Street. Hotel is on the left.

From the South: Take I-95 North to I-395 North. Take the exit 7A (Glebe Road South). Continue on Glebe Road approximately 2 miles to 5th stoplight. Turn left on Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1 North). Turn right onto 27th Street. Hotel is on the left.

From the North: Take I-495 South across American Legion Bridge into Virginia. Exit onto George Washington Parkway. Travel about 10 miles south. Exit at National Airport, stay in right lane; follow signs to Crystal City - Route 1 South. Take Route 1 South Exit. Turn left at first light, 27th Street. Hotel is on the left.

Recommended Dress

Business attire is appropriate for the sessions and receptions. Reminder: Meeting room temperatures and personal comfort levels vary widely. Because meeting rooms often seem cold, please bring a sweater or jacket.

International Attendees

If you require a letter of invitation in order to obtain a visa for entry into the United States, please let us know as soon as possible. Please indicate where the letter should be sent and how it should be sent (fax, post, etc.). Financial Support

Please note that the conference does not have funds available to support registration, travel, or any other costs of registrants. Reductions in registration fees are not available except for the early registration fee.

Registration and Fees

The registration fees are as follows:

On or before March 23, 2001*: $325
After March 23, 2001 and Onsite: $375

*To qualify for the reduced registration fee of $325, a complete registration form with payment must be received at the NFID office before 5 p.m. Eastern Time on March 23, 2001. Registrations or payments received after March 23 will be subject to the $375 fee.

The registration fee includes a program/abstract book, continental breakfast on each day of the conference, all scheduled coffee breaks, the opening reception, and the poster session reception. Accommodations and additional meals are not included.

  • Check or Money Order: Checks (drawn on a U.S. bank only) and/or money orders must be in U.S. dollars, made payable to NFID, and mailed with the registration form to the address below.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds minus a $75 administrative fee will be granted only if written notification arrives at the NFID office prior to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on March 30, 2001. There will be no refunds for cancellations made after March 31, 2001. NFID reserves the right to cancel this conference at any time. In the event of conference cancellation, only the full registration fee will be returned to the registrant.
