Antimicrobial Use and Resistance Course Announcement
NFID Co-Sponsors Videoconference
Videotape Now Available
Widespread use of antimicrobials has been associated with the emergence of antimicrobial resistant pathogens in health care facilities. Antimicrobial Use and Resistance: Solutions to the Problem, a live interactive satellite videoconference, was broadcast Thursday, August 20, 1998. The 2 1/2 hour broadcast provided an overview of the increasing problem of use and the emergence of antimicrobial resistant pathogens. The program also described methods of surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and assesment of antimicrobial use. The conference was designed for physicians, nurses, infection control professionals, pharmacists, laboratorians, hospital administrators, and others. Participants learned a variety of strategies to improve antimicrobial use and prevent and control the spread of antimicrobial resistant pathogens. The conference was sponsored by the Hospital Infections Program, National Center for Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC); National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID); and Public Health Training Network, Public Health Practice Program Office, CDC; in partnership with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (APIC) and the Society for HealthCare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).
Viewed by more than 50,000 individuals in the United States and abroad, the program received excellent feedback from the participants. Due to the overwhelming positive response, NFID also is offering this program on videotape.Speakers
